Holland Professional Driver Herschel Evans Named America’s Road Team Finalist

[10.31.12] Holland professional driver Herschel Evans is a finalist in the American Trucking Associations (ATA) selection of Captains for the 2013-2014 America’s Road Team.

Drivers chosen as Captains for America’s Road Team are the “best of the best” with superior safety records. America’s Road Team Captains educate the public about safe driving practices and the trucking industry. Captains must be excellent communicators as well as exceedingly knowledgeable about safety within the industry. Evans is one of 32 professional drivers who will now move to the final round being held January 6-8, 2013 in Arlington, Va.

Herschel Evans is a two-time national driving champion, a dedicated safety leader, and a community volunteer. He has worked in the transportation industry for 24 years, the last 18 years with Holland. He is a local city driver at the Holland Atlanta, Ga. service center.

Evans won the state 5-axle driving competition in 2012, 2011, 2008 and 2006. He earned two national titles with first-place finishes in the 5-axle class at the National Truck Driving Championships in 2011 and 2008. The Georgia Motor Trucking Association named Evans its 2012 Driver of the Year. He won the 2006 Georgia Motor Trucking Association’s Grand Championship as well as “Rookie of the Year.”

He received the 2012 Destination Green Environmental Excellence Award presented by YRC Worldwide for his commitment to sustainable driving practices. The award recognizes employees of YRC Worldwide companies for environmental leadership.

His community involvement includes the annual Ride for Kids, a motorcycle charity ride benefitting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Evans has volunteered in leadership roles to organize the annual event since 1988. He is also a charter member of the Eddie James Foundation for Children, and a participant and fundraiser in the MAPTDA Make-A-Wish FunDrive.

“Safety is the number one priority in Herschel’s professional life. He has proven himself to be one of Holland’s safety leaders and one of the nation’s safest drivers. Employees like Herschel make Holland a better and safer transportation provider. We congratulate him for this achievement and look forward to his continued safety leadership,” said Holland President Scott Ware.

America’s Road Team was created in 1986 by the ATA to represent the trucking industry and is sponsored by Volvo Trucks.
