HOLLAND, Michigan, July 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Holland, a regional LTL transportation provider, launches a driver apprentice program for individuals with varying levels of education and skill. The Driver Training Program promotes the active recruitment of individuals looking to earn a commercial driver’s license (CDL), as well as licensed CDL operators seeking additional experience or license endorsements. The Driver Training Program, which is open to anyone looking for a career in trucking, aims to enhance recruitment efforts and address the driver shortage.
“Holland is excited to offer job opportunities for individuals who are interested in joining the transportation industry,” said Rocky Whaley, Driver Training Program Manager. “We are proud to partner with the Department of Labor and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through this apprenticeship program.”
“Military veterans who join our team are eligible to receive paid training through Holland, as well as additional funding support through the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill,” Whaley added.
Holland’s goal to produce safe, quality drivers is supported by a period of mentorship from our seasoned drivers. Whether the experience is required for distance driving or for local pickups and deliveries, an extensive team of driver mentors supports skill development. The company currently employs more than 300 professional driver mentors and anticipates an increase to 400 mentors by the end of 2019. Holland also employs 9 driving instructors at strategic locations where they can further support and expand the Driver Training Program.
Currently, the program has launched in 24 terminal locations with plans to expand to 30 terminals by year’s end. Holland anticipates gaining more than 350 drivers through the program by 2020. The company offers a strong benefits package to these new employees with competitive pay, 100 percent company-paid healthcare premiums, 401(k), pension and paid time off.
