Supporting our H.E.R.O.E.S.

For over 7 years, Holland has been working with the H.E.R.O.E.S. Care organization (Homefront Enabling Relationships, Opportunities, and Empowerment through Support) to help support our troops and their families. The H.E.R.O.E.S. organization describes their mission as, “to provide complete and proactive support for members of all branches of the military and their families through pre-deployment, deployment, family reintegration and post-deployment.”

As partners of H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, Holland and its employees provide direct donations and free shipping of a variety of goods to be distributed to the troops and their families. Over the years, we have participated in bi-annual care package drives for the troops and many other deliveries. Holland and its St. Louis employees take a highly active role in these drives--sorting, handling and delivering large amounts of cargo, and utilizing the good will and hard work of numerous Holland employees across every level of operations throughout our network.

Most recently, Holland picked up 14 skids of toys and diapers from the H.E.R.O.E.S. Care headquarters near St. Louis and delivered them to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. The toys and diapers were distributed to service members and their families to bringsome extra cheer to their holidays.

That delivery was quickly followed with another to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and yet another to Army Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri the following week.

Holland professional driver, Roy Gillespie, initiated our connection to H.E.R.O.E.S. Care over 7 years ago. Since then, Roy has increased his own commitment to the cause and is honored to be a member of the charity's Board of Directors.

“I feel that it is important for us to give back to those that have given us so much,” said Roy. “Holland is a company with many employees who have served, or with family in the military, and it seems natural to create this partnership with H.E.R.O.E.S. Care. All of my uncles, my father and my grandfather served in the military, and I feel this is my way of giving back.”

Roy's philanthropic drive doesn't stop with the military. He has also recently brought Holland together with the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation to deliver food to the poor and homeless, and the Jennings, Missouri School District to help transport furniture to the district's new foster home for homeless students.

As 2015 came to a close, Holland kept its wheels moving and its commitment to giving growing. Holland and our employees have been able to provide a great deal of relief and good will to a variety of people and communities in need. We would like to thank H.E.R.O.E.S. Care for their outstanding work and all of our Holland employees, including Roy, who have helped to support charitable efforts over the years.

We look forward to many more years of partnership with H.E.R.O.E.S. Care.
