News & Other Services
Listening to you
As a Holland customer, your opinion matters. That's why employees across YRC Worldwide (our parent company) are reaching out to customers, asking about concerns, addressing issues and answering questions.
By talking with our customers, we're able to address head-on the rumors that are circulating in the marketplace and reinforce the progress we're making against our strategic plan,” says John Garcia, executive vice president and chief sales officer. “A common theme among our customers is that they are supportive of our company and willing to give us a chance to earn more of their business.”
At Holland, we've heard feedback from more than 400 customers. You told us that quality handling of shipments is your first concern, and that's what Holland delivers:
- On-time deliveries: over 97%
- Claim ratio: half the industry average
If you have a comment about your experiences with Holland, we'd like to hear from you, too. Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org

August U.S. manufacturing exceeds expectations
For the first time in 19 months, factories in the U.S. expanded production, according to the Institute for Supply Management. The group's factory gauge uses 50 as the dividing line between expansion and contraction. ISM reported August at 52.9, exceeding forecasts and the highest level since June 2007. They attribute the gains to the Federal Reserve efforts to thaw credit markets, the "cash for clunkers" program and tax credits for first-time homebuyers.
Truck tonnage up for July
The American Trucking Associations' advance seasonally adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index increased 2.1 percent in July. In June, SA tonnage fell 2.4 percent. July's gain, which raised the SA index to 101.9 (2000=100), wasn't large enough to completely offset the reduction in the previous month. "While I am optimistic that the worst is behind us, I just don't see anything on the economic horizon that suggests freight tonnage is about to rise significantly or consistently," said ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello. "Still, even small gains are better than the February 2008 through April 2009 cumulative tonnage reduction of 15.5 percent."
National Truck Driving Championships
Through a demonstration of professionalism and a commitment to safety, fifty-seven YRC Worldwide drivers won their state competitions and the right to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships in Pittsburgh, PA in August. Out of approximately 400 competitors, two YRCW drivers captured top awards, including third place in both the Twin Trailers class and 5-Axle Class.

Tips to Make Your Life Easier
Business is picking up
For our wire and cable manufacturing customer, limited dock space means shipment pickup time is as important as delivery time.
We've always delivered confidence with on-time and damage-free deliveries. To meet the needs of this customer, we're tracking our pickup-time performance as well.
This customer fills three or four trailers at a time, and as a trailer is filled, they call us for it to be switched out with an empty one. We'll do three or four switches like this a day. If a pickup is delayed, shipments sit on the dock where they run the risk of being damaged or causing a safety issue.
Our goal is to have trailers switched within two hours of receiving the call from the client. After three months of tracking, we're at a 95 percent on-time pickup rate.
